Jamie Wren, BSN, RN, LMT

After becoming a licensed massage therapist in 2002, she returned to school and earned a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Husson University, graduating with honors in 2008. She has extensive experience in Mental Health & Substance Abuse nursing, as well as working in the operating room and telehealth. Jamie continues to live in Thorndike with her 2 children and boxer dog.
The RSU 3 School District employs two full time registered nurses. A nurse is usually present at the Mt. View complex every day, at the outlying elementary schools every week and available by phone at any time. The nurses oversee the administration of medications, consult on and provide first aid, develop plans of care for medically fragile students, monitor the immunization status of the students, perform vision/hearing screenings, monitor students growth patterns, maintain the fluoride and mobile dental program, teach CPR and First Aid to staff, maintain the AEDs in each building, and work under the direction of the school physician. Vision screenings and height and weight screenings are provided for students in grades K, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. Hearing screenings are done in grades K, 1, 3, and 5. If you or your child has a concern about one of these areas and screening is not scheduled, please call or send a note and we will screen the student as soon as possible. Parents are informed of the screening results ONLY if a student does not pass. In that case, you will receive a referral form advising further evaluation by a physician, and requesting that you return the referral form to us after your child is seen. Please note that screenings are basic tests and do not take the place of a thorough evaluation by your physician. We offer FREE fluoride varnish for kindergarten through 5th-grade students. The fluoride varnish is the same varnish offered at the dentist. Please take advantage of this service especially if you currently pay for fluoride at your dentist. The School nurse does a quick dental screening (not to replace an exam by the dentist) in the fall and applies the fluoride varnish 2 times a year. The varnish program replaces the fluoride swish program we had in the past. The medical needs of many of our students have become increasingly complex. We would be happy to address any special needs or concerns with you. If your child has a medical condition/mental health condition or an anaphylactic allergy please be sure to complete the Annual Health Questionnaire. Please inform us if your child has had a change in their health status during the school year. If your child needs immediate attention due to a health concern please call the nurse’s office at 568-4606.
